Facebook Messenger for Student Centered Learning
Many people often use Facebook in their everyday life. People useFacebookfor the purposes of communication, some people use Facebook for sharing multimedia (photo, video), creating blogs, tagging etc.
Facebook could be used to share materials (e.g., video clips photographs, Word/Excel/Pdf files, presentations, and websites). Facebook group can be created for group discussion. It can be useful for collaborative learning and questioning.
Facebook was not originally created for educational purposes butit can be used as a learning center such as classroom as it has following features.
1) Delivery of several content types are allowed; The teacher can upload course materials(e.g., lecture notes, presentation slides, video, links) to a closed Facebook group. Assignment can also be uploaded.
2) Asynchronous and synchronous communication can be conducted through the Facebook. The Phone calls or video meeting can be conducted within group.It is synchronous communication. Sharing screen option is available which can be used to teach face to face. chat. Group emails and group messages can be sent in group. It is asynchronous communication. Figure below shows the screen shot of the group chat and group video chat of the one of the classroom activities.

3) Evaluation tools are provided for grading and feedback. Students can send their digital copy of homework to the group and the teacher can provide feedback to the students as shown in figure below. Facebook option Edit can be used for feedback. Text, emoji, paintbrush stickers etc are available for sending feedback for students work.

- People can send and receive messages more quickly
- We can send video, file, share screen, message texts and pictures without accessing those costs.
- It can be used for collaboration. we can use face book for group study by creating a group. we can share any information about our projects.
- Users can make video call. which can be use for teaching.
- There we can share any information about our projects , homeworks , assignments, exams, due date etc.
- We can share our blogs, article and videos.
- Facebook as source of information and news. We can see latest news and views by different blogs , fan page

Cons of Facebook Messenger
- The use of Facebook in education may involve a violation of privacy,
- It reduces the direct and personal communication between a teacher and his students.
- Increasing the number of hours in facebook may lead to some psychological or social problems
- people share false news and information
- It’s difficult to completely protect your privacy
- It adds another distraction to life.
Avoiding facebook misuse
by student
Student may busy with
their social site such as Facebook, sharing message and sharing pictures while
teacher is explaining the lesson. Student should be educated to digital
literacy. Student can be informed that their misused can be detected if
required. While teaching in class, student can chat and message each other
without concentrating on class, thinking that teacher cannot know what they are
doing. We can tell them that if required, we can find out their activities.
Student will then be aware of what they are doing in Facebook and will
therefore do not misuse.
